About Common Ground
Common Ground is a relaxed community camp for people who enjoy radio, making, building, experimenting and sharing ideas.
It’s about getting together in a field, setting up camp, trying things out, learning from each other and spending time with people who share the same curiosity.
There is no need to fit into one particular hobby. Bring a radio, a project, something half-built, an idea you want help with — or simply come along to see what everyone else is doing.
What’s happening
The weekend is deliberately informal. The programme grows from the people who come and the things they bring with them.
Set up a station, try a new antenna, make contacts, experiment with digital modes or simply operate from somewhere different for the weekend.
Electronics, coding, fabrication, 3D printing, microcontrollers and wonderfully unnecessary projects are all welcome.
Creative projects, digital art, photography, design, craft, sculpture and anything that combines creativity with making and technology.
Community first
Common Ground is designed around the social side as much as the projects. Pitch up, make a brew, wander around, see what other people are working on and join in when something catches your interest.
You do not need to be an expert and you do not need a finished project. Curiosity is enough.

FAQ
No. Common Ground is deliberately wider than amateur radio. If you like making, electronics, coding, experimenting or simply learning how things work, you will fit in.
No. There may be plenty of radios around, but the focus is on camping, operating, building, experimenting and spending time together rather than stalls and traders.
Not at all. Bring something if you want to, but coming along to talk, learn, help or just see what is happening is equally valid.
Absolutely. The whole idea is to create shared space. Clubs, informal groups and groups of friends are encouraged to camp and operate together.
